Nominations for 56th Grammy Awards unveiled

The nominations are in for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. 

Nominees were announced Friday night during CBS' presentation of "Grammy Nominations Concert Live - Countdown To Music's Biggest Night."  Hip-hop superstar Jay Z tops the list of nominees this year with nine nominations. 

Rap newcomers Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis tie with past Grammy winners Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams with seven nominations each.  During the event, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis told host LL Cool J they'd be thrilled to hear their names called in January. 

Nominees for Grammys' coveted Album of the Year category include: The Blessed Unrest by Sara Bareilles; Random Access Memories by Daft Punk; Good Kid, M.A.A.D City by Kendrick Lamar; The Heist by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis; and Red by Taylor Swift. 

This year's Best New Artist nominees include Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, James Blake, Kacey Musgraves, and Ed Sheeran 

Hosted by LL Cool J at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. L.A. Live, Friday night, the music-driven nominations special included performances from artists like Robin Thicke and T.I.; Macklemore & Ryan Lewis; Lorde; Keith Urban and Miguel; and Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, who were beamed in via satellite from Australia and Canada respectively. 

The 56th Grammy Awards will be presented on Sunday, January 26th. CBS will televise the event live from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
